About LitreDrop

LitreDrop makes UK fuel prices easy to compare, with a focus on who has just cut their prices. It is an independent website run by iiNSTEADYCLUB and is not affiliated with the UK Government, Fuel Finder or any fuel retailer.

Where the data comes from

All prices come from the UK Government's Fuel Finder service, run for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Under the Motor Fuel Price (Open Data) Regulations 2025, forecourts must report price changes within 30 minutes. We download the official CSV twice a day (around 10:00 and 16:00 UK time) and rebuild the site each time.

Contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

How price drops are calculated

A price drop is the difference between a forecourt's current price and its price in the official snapshot about 24 hours earlier. Cuts under 0.5p are ignored. A very small number of entries that look like data-entry mistakes (a cut over 40p, a price more than 30p below the local median, or a cut of 5p+ at the same moment another fuel at that forecourt rose 5p+, which usually means two fuel prices were entered the wrong way round) are held back from the drops leaderboard but still shown on the forecourt's own page, unchanged.

UK averages are a trimmed mean (top and bottom 5% removed) of all forecourts reporting that fuel. We never edit, hide or re-order prices to favour any retailer; lists are sorted only by price, size of cut or distance.

Accuracy

Prices are reported by the forecourts themselves and may change at any time. The price at the pump is the one that applies. If a price looks wrong, report it to Fuel Finder or let us know.
